America’s Best First Job: Meet Jennifer Browning, a general manager at the McDonald’s restaurant on Owen Rd. in Fenton, Michigan. She’s worked at McDonald’s for 27 years and was recently honored with the prestigious Ray Kroc Award for excellence. The award is given to the top one percent of McDonald's general managers. She’s worked at McDonald’s since she was a teenager and is now a mentor to younger employees. “I enjoy teenagers that come in and are scared to work, because we make it fun for them, teach them and show them. I’ve had a lot of people work for me that today are now grown adults—they’ve gone off to college and have been successful and I was their first employer.”

AMERICA'S BEST FIRST JOB: Meet Erica Donald. She was within striking distance of achieving a goal she’d dreamed about for years: earning an associate degree in business management. That’s when she received news that threatened to sideline her dream. In spring 2017, after several semesters of receiving financial aid, Donald learned she didn’t qualify for assistance during her final semester of school. The 30-year-old mother of two was distraught and didn’t know how she would be able to afford tuition for the two remaining classes in her program—two classes separating her from a degree and aspirations of furthering her career at McDonald’s, where she’d worked since the age of 18. “I was feeling down and uncertain about my future and needed someone to talk to,” Donald recalled. “I learned about McDonald’s tuition assistance program after I told my manager about the situation.” Donald’s manager at the restaurant on Holland Road in Saginaw gave her information about Archways to Opportunity, which allows employees to receive tuition assistance, earn a high school diploma or improve their English skills. She applied for Archways to Opportunity online and qualified for $1,050 in tuition assistance. It allowed her to enroll in her two remaining classes that semester, management and statistics, and graduate in May 2017. “My back was against the wall, and Archways to Opportunity through McDonald’s empowered me to earn my associate degree,” Donald said. “I wouldn’t be where I am today had my manager not told me about Archways.” READ ERICA'S STORY HERE: http://McD.to/6183DgRVx
